There are several ways to make that first inch of your website - your logo, help your overall SEO efforts. Most sites have a logo called, get this - “logo.jpg”! Wow that’s so unique. Here’s a 2 minute way to optimize your logo code to help your rank as well as your users.
Change the name of your logo to “geography-industry-top.jpg”. While you’re at it make that image link to you home page -NOT index.html but your true domain. Add alt-text to the image - something like “Your company in your geography” and a title-attribute to the link, something like “geography industry”.
Now it helps your users by providing roll-over title text, helps identify your brand if the image doesn’t load for whatever reason, provides a link home and best of all- gets your industry, geography and company name high up on the code source. Another benefit is that your banner may come up in image searches too.
Now, isn’t that better than just “logo.jpg”?
