Consumers are, well, consumed - thinking that a little number up in the Google Toolbar is the end-all and be-all of a website’s success.

Few SEO’s regard it as anything but a “foolbar” of sorts. I get all kinds of silly rants like “but it’s a pr3, why is that pr2 doing so well” while they still, in the same breath tell me they want their “PageRank” increased. If you know how this works, why are you asking for help? As a great SEO named Lenny once said, “a little knowledge is a dangerous thing”.

STOP IT! What matters are the SERPS, not the PR. I manage some pr3 sites that absolutely dominate their industry. I also have some 5’s and 6’s that really don’t deserve it. I also have many pr1’s, 2’s and 3’s that make tons of money.

Sure, a site that’s been around a decade and still not even indexed is a problem, but that’s so under the scope of what we do.

Instead of just telling everyone to stop chasing the green-bar dream of yesteryear just READ. If you don’t like me, my writing, then go somewhere nice with some friendlier writing and get the same results.

Check out Ask Kalena and maybe then you’ll take it to heart. The only thing I really disagree with her about is the way to spell “website”. (She explains it’s ‘Web Site’ and is right, I’m stubborn)

Buy her some coffee too while you read her stuff. (I did)
